Abstract:

On January 31, 2024, ART CITY Bologna inaugurates "Return, Canal" by Luca Campestri, curated by Olivia Teglia. The project explores the underground canals of Bologna, drawing a parallel between urban and physiological geography.

Campestri employs language and artistic practice based on spectral permanence and mnemonic erosion: analyzing the fabrics of a heterotopia and creating a spatial radiograph, he realizes "a sound installation that incessantly maps the underground space, similar to an electrocardiogram attesting its presence. Embroidered fabric, akin to molten metal, becomes the vehicle of narration, constituting a timeless relic, the crystallized skin of a reptile, tanned with chrome lasting for centuries."

Luca Campestri, of Italian-German descent, is trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna, using video, photographic, and sound media to explore the concept of the spectrum as a partial being. During the opening of "Return, Canal," informational signs about Battifredo and Finestrella della Grada will be presented, part of Canali di Bologna's project to map the city's canals to spread knowledge among locals and tourists.
